Dr Taylor is currently teaching at the Department of Social Science and Development, Chiang Mai University, and Adjunct Associate Professor, Anthropology and Development Studies at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. Dr Taylor is a theoretical and practicing anthropologist, specializing in mainland Southeast Asia and Australasia, especially indigenous peoples, with extensive consultancy experience in social development. He has published on the dilemmas of planned social/cultural change, new social and religious movements in Thailand, Theravada (Thai) Buddhism and the conditions of modernity. His books include Forest Monks and the Nation State: An Anthropological and Historical Study in Northeastern Thailand, Singapore: Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, 1993 (Reprinted 1996), and Post-Modern Imaginings in Thailand: The Religiosity of Urban Space, London: Ashgate Publishing, 2008. He is going to establish a Northern Buddhist (Theravada) Studies Centre.
