The Department of Women
’s
Studies, the first of its kind in the Greater Mekong Sub
-region,
was established in 2008 in the North of Thailand as the center of women
’s studies
. The Department produces,
collects, researches, and disseminates knowledge in order to promote gender
equality and women
’s human rights, and benefit people in
the local community, the country, the region and the international society
. The Department of Women
’s
Studies aims to support and broaden the horizon of academic work related to
women
’s issues
. The Department is
laying its foundation for social change, promotion of gender equality and the
benefits of the local community, the country, the region and international
society
. The Department also aims to produce graduates with
academic knowledge and public consciousness, support researching, provide for
the society academic services, in which knowledge about women
’s
studies are applied to create as well as promote gender equality and women
’s human rights in the local community, the Greater Mekong Sub
-Region and the international society
.The Department has the missions to be a ground of
the academic development as the followings:
1. To offer the Master’s and Doctorate programs in women’s and
gender studies and produce graduates with good qualities,
social responsibility and academic knowledge, and some courses for
undergraduate students;
2. To produce the researches
with feminist perspectives to be the foundation for the teaching, to
disseminate the knowledge about women’s and gender issues,
to promote gender equality and women’s human rights in the
local and national society;
3. To provide academic
services for society; to participate in the community’s
development and strengthening; to recognize women’s human
rights and to create equality in society in various levels;
4. To preserve art and
culture, religion, and to conserve as well as develop natural resources and
environment with the focus on equal rights between women and men and respect in
women’s human rights;
5. To
develop administrative and management systems with good governance, self-sufficiency adhering to the philosophy of sufficiency economy.
